Ubisoft x Tencent
Ubisoft announced a new subsidiary, funded by Tencent with a 25% stake worth €1.16 billion, focusing on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. The goal is to build evergreen, multiplatform game ecosystems. The transaction should be completed by the end of 2025.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that this move accelerates the company's transformation, enabling agility and ambition. The new subsidiary will enhance Ubisoft's assets and balance sheet, aiming for long-term growth and the success of its key franchises.
Tencent president Martin Lau expressed excitement about extending their partnership with Ubisoft, confident in the potential of these franchises to evolve into evergreen platforms and offer engaging experiences for gamers.
Nintendo Switch
Nintendo has announced Virtual Game Cards for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games. This system allows players to manage their digital games between owned consoles and lend out digital games to other players for up to two weeks. It will launch in late April for Nintendo Switch as a system software update and will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 when it officially launches. A trailer explaining the new system was also released.
The virtual game card feature for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems adds flexibility to digital game libraries, similar to physical game cards. Users with two systems can digitally eject and load games from one system to another and lend games to members of their Nintendo Account family group. For accounts linked to two different systems, users can choose which system to play on by ejecting the virtual game card from one system and loading it onto the other.
Once a virtual game card is loaded onto a system, it can be played without an internet connection, and other user accounts on the system can also access the game. Virtual game cards can be managed and loaded via the Nintendo Account on the Nintendo website. The lending feature requires both local wireless and internet connections, and some games, such as those available only through a Nintendo Switch Online membership, cannot be lent out.
A game can be lent per account for up to 14 days. After the game is returned, the borrower retains their save data and can resume playing if they borrow or purchase the game again.

This RPG title returns, fully remastered for modern platforms. SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered keeps its watercolor visuals, strategic battles, and the event-based narrative that allows players to experience the story from multiple perspectives. The story follows Gustave, a royal heir, and Wil Knights, an excavator pursuing the mystery of the Egg—their stories impact the history of Sandail over generations.
The narrative begins with two protagonists: Gustave, heir to a royal line, and Wil, a young man who performs excavation work. Their circumstances are different, as Gustave faces strife and conflict between nations, while Wil confronts a world-threatening calamity. Their stories merge to form a single history.
The game’s "History Choice" system lets players select events to play, assuming the roles of various characters and experiencing the world's history in segments. In addition to the Glimmer and Combo mechanics, this title features one-on-one duels. Players encounter strategic battles.
The game’s watercolor-style graphics are more defined and vibrant, with original character sprites upscaled for modern resolutions. New sprites are created for characters without unique sprites in the original game. History Choice, chronology, a revamped screen layout, and various gameplay systems have been updated for more intuitive and comfortable gameplay.
Under the supervision of SaGa franchise general director Akitoshi Kawazu, Benny Matsuyama introduces new story events that provide additional insights into SaGa Frontier 2. Added elements like Parameter Inheritance, postgame content, and New Game+ enhance the gameplay experience. The excavation minigame, initially created for the Japan-exclusive PocketStation peripheral, is playable in the west for the first time as “Dig! Dig! Digger” in SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered.
